KENT COUNTY, MI — A Grand Rapids-based construction company says it has broken ground on a 250-unit “luxury” apartment complex at the site of the former Lincoln Country Club on Lake Michigan Drive NW in Walker.
CopperRock Construction says construction on Savannah at Waterford Village will continue for 24 months on the 36-acre site at 3485 Lake Michigan Dr. NW.
The development, led by Illinois-based real estate investment firm Stoneleigh Companies, will feature 39 single-story buildings with either one-bedroom, two-bedroom, or three-bedroom units. Each building will have between four and eight apartments. There will also be two-car attached garages.
“Our entire team is thrilled to be a part of this multi-family development, which will bring new residents and healthy consumer spending to the growing Standale community,” CopperRock Construction President Dean Rosendall said in a statement.
The apartments will range in size from 905-square-feet to 1,617-squarefeet, and will include 9-foot vaulted ceilings, stainless steel appliances, and quarts countertops.
While the entire project will take 24-months, the first building on the site could be complete by late summer, with residents possibly moving in by September, said Rick Cavenaugh, president of Stoneleigh Companies.
The monthly rental rates, on average, are expected to range from $1,800 to $2,575, he said.
In addition to the apartments, the development is also slated to include a clubhouse featuring a fitness studio, lounge, a community room and kitchen, pool tables, a TV lounge. It will also have an outdoor terrace featuring firepits, and an outdoor dining area with grills.
“So I think for the apartment renter, or the person who’s downsizing and selling their house and wants to stay in the area, this will provide a great housing option at a competitive price to what housing is costing these housing option at a competitive price to what housing is costing these days with interest rates,” Cavenaugh said.
In addition to the apartments, the development is slated to include 68 lots for single-family homes.
Those lots will be sold to a developer or builder who wants to construct the homes. There will also be eight acres of commercial lots, part of which is along Lake Michigan Drive, that could house businesses such as restaurants, dental or medical office buildings, as well as a gas station, Cavenaugh said.
